Have you always wanted to be part of a movie or a creative production just like it? It doesn’t have to be an acting job. There are so many other departments in the film industry. All these departments work together to come up with a production that is packaged for us in the form of film. All these jobs are considered film jobs, and you without any experience can apply for any of them.
Whether it’s only based on a spontaneous whim to be part of something big or it has been a dream of yours since childhood, being part of a film can be so much fun. Some of these productions last only for a day or two, or it can also stay on for months to years.
If you are planning to start at the bottom of the food chain, expect that your first job will not be there forever and will not pay much. You should also not expect too much on this first stint. Although there are reports of people becoming famous on their very first entry into showbiz, this is only a rare deal.
One of the film jobs that could appeal to you is being a film extra. Most film extras are just fillers who stand around where a crowd is needed. Most of these roles do not require speaking lines, so all that’s required is for you to go where the director tells you.
Another job that may interest you is being the assistant of an actor or a prime figure in the production. Aside from actors, behind-the-scenes people like directors and producers will also require assistance. If you want to stay in this industry, you have to be prepared to be a scout monkey, doing odd jobs such as buying coffee or ordering in some pizza for the whole team—things that these people have no time for to do on their own.
To be a good assistant, sometimes you are required to anticipate what the needs are and provide even before you’re asked. When you have this attitude down pat, you start to be noticed by the big people in the industry and it gives you a better chance of getting another job later on.
Whether you have a two-bit role as an extra or your job is to keep the ball rolling behind the scenes, you will find that working in the film industry can be quite stimulating. Make the most of it while it lasts.
